New Centralia Photos from Tommy and Keri

We're lucky enough to have two new photographers, Tommy and Keri, as contributors to ForgottenPA. I love their photos, and hope they'll keep 'em coming!

This is awesome, especially in the fall. Where is this and why is this highway abandoned?

Google Centralia, PA and you'll find lots of info on it, including directions. It's located just to the north of Ashland (along Rt61) in the southern tip of Columbia County. The highway, and basically the whole town, are abandoned because of a massive underground mine fire that has been burning since the 60's. The fire burns up the coal and the ground collapses. That's why you see the large cracks in the highway. A creepy place indeed.

I happen to come across your Site on Forgotten, Pennsylvania. I have bookmarked it for further reference.

Also, I have a number of pictures of Centralia. My Wife was born and raised in this area. I will try and send some too you that were taken a few years ago. I also see that Centrailia is getting worse. Pretty soon it will just fall into a large mining hole.

About ForgottenPA

Created by Al Ebaster in 2007 after a trip to Centralia, ForgottenPA has become one of Pennsylvania's most popular urban-exploration websites. Brian is our photographer, and we're happy to have Ethan Smith, aka Bluecapriethan in the comment sections, on board as an author and photographer as well.

We're always accepting photo submissions! Email your photos to spampoet0023@gmail.com, with a few words about where and when they were taken.

Want to join us? If you have a Blogger/Gmail account and a passion for Pennsylvania abandonments, send us some urban-exploration photos and a few words about yourself to spampoet0023@gmail.com. Our authors retain all rights to the material they post, and are free to publish anything relevant to PA urban exploration at their own pace.
